Barcelona is a city whose identity has changed many times over the course of history. Though many cultural influences can be seen throughout the city, they have been masked in recent years by the drive for a global tourism economy. Barcelona, by trying to fit in to the mold of what a destination city should be, has lost many of the characteristics which make it unique. The iconic architecture of Antonio Gaudí has been particularly exploited.
